Change to Lead

Between September 23-25, Caravelle Hotel in the beach town of Nha Trang worked with Vietmark Company to organize a teambuilding program called “Change to lead” for hotel managers.

The program aims to provide managers with confidence, problem-solving capacity and ways to change themselves into talented leaders. Members of the program had to go through three major challenges in three stages: Start, Change, and Lead.

During the first stage, the members encountered several difficulties set by the organizers. The players did not receive any specific plans. No one knew what to do, where to go. Every assignment was a surprise and only when the players finished one assignment did they get the code for the next. The first stage thus needed good team work and required each member to make the best use of their own intelligence.

The second stage, Change, offered even harder difficulties. In this stage, each team was asked to finish an assignment concerning their professional skills in 90 minutes. Under the pressure of time, each team leader had to assign work to each member so that the job could be finished on time with good coordination. Also in this stage, the players engaged in social activities such as planting trees and visiting orphanages.

In the final and most special stage, Lead, the members faced highly hazardous challenges. They revisited the challenges of unexpected problems, and had to find solutions when there was lack of guidance in order to know what to do. When they received an order from the organizers, they had to find a means of transport on their own to reach the destination. The stage offered a chance for team members to sit back and share their experiences during the training program and draw out precious lessons for their life and their work.

According to Caravelle leaders, the “Change to lead” program has left a positive impact on the hotel managers. There was not only an impact on awareness. The program also gave the managers a new point of view with which to look at their job in the future.

At the end of the game, there were winners and losers. But the overall victory went to team spirit and group solidarity, which was the main purpose of the program.
